Mercedes-Benz GLA Info
In India, Mercedes-Benz has unveiled the next-generation GLA. The new model has a redesigned look, more features, a more roomy cabin, and new powertrain options.
Engine and Transmission
The standard GLA comes with one petrol and one diesel engine under the hood. The new 1.3-litre petrol engine produces 161 horsepower and 250 Nm of torque, while the powerful 2.0-litre diesel engine produces 188 horsepower and 400 Nm of torque. The latter is also available with an all-wheel drive. The petrol variant has a seven-speed DCT transmission, whereas the diesel version has an eight-speed automatic transmission.
Exterior design
The 2021 GLA is taller, bigger, and has more ground clearance than the previous generation model in terms of appearance. This provides it with the much-needed SUV appeal that the previous model lacked. A single slat horizontal grille sits at the front, accompanied by redesigned LED headlights. Despite the absence of fog lamps, the front bumper now features a bone-like pattern and a three-box bash plate at the bottom. The GLA rides on a pair of comfy 18-inch alloy wheels with squared-off wheel arches. The slim LED tail lamps are present at the rear. In classic Mercedes form, the split pieces narrow down towards the boot lid. The lower half is coated in thick plastic with a touch of chrome.
Interior design
Inside, the interior of the 2021 GLA has been redesigned to match those of the family's older siblings. The two-screen arrangement for the infotainment and the driver's instrument cluster, each measuring 10.25 inches, takes center stage. The touchscreen system is driven by the MBUX NTG6 generation, which includes the most up-to-date software as well as Apple CarPlay and Android Auto compatibility. Meanwhile, the Progressive trims have Beige and Black upholstery, as well as an open walnut dashboard combo. The GLA includes a number of 'Mercedes Me' connected features, including Alexa voice assistant, remote door lock/unlock, remote engine start, speed alert, and geo-fencing, to name a few. Other amenities include memory functions for the front seats, as well as wireless smartphone charging.
Safety
Seven airbags, an electronic stability program (ESP), and active brake assist are among the safety features.
Rivals
The GLA will compete with the BMW X1, Volvo XC40, Mini Cooper Countryman, and Audi Q3 in 2021.
