The favorite Indian car manufacturer Tata Motors has prepared well for entering the CNG-powered passenger vehicle segment to compete against the two dominating brands like Maruti Suzuki and Hyundai. As per the reports, Tata will launch the CNG versions of the Tiago hatchback and the Tigor sedan in the first month of 2022.
Interestingly, Tata dealers have already started to accept the pre-bookings for their upcoming variants, however, Tata motors haven't made any official announcements on this.
Tata Motors is also developing a CNG-powered version of the Punch subcompact SUV. The compact SUV now has a single 1.2L petrol engine with 85bhp and 113Nm of torque. A 5-speed manual transmission and a 5-speed automated manual transmission are available. The Tata Punch CNG is currently undergoing testing, and it is projected to be available in 2022.
Also, the upcoming Tata Punch CNG will be powered by the same 1.2L 3-cylinder Revotron engine, although power and torque will be reduced slightly. The CNG power plant for the tiny SUV should produce roughly 70-75 horsepower and torque of around 100 Nm. It will only be available in manual form. The Punch CNG should have a mileage of around 30 kilometers per kilogram.
Speaking about the changes in the upcoming Punch CNG, there will be no alterations made in terms of both interior design as well as an exterior surface. On the fender and at the back, the corporation would place CNG emblems. The CNG-powered Punch will compete with the Hyundai Santro, Maruti WagonR, and the Swift CNG, among others.
The Punch's lower and mid-level variations are likely to be used in the CNG version. Dual airbags, ABS with EBD, brake sway control, tilt-adjustable steering, central locking, front electric windows, and 15-inch steel wheels are included in the basic model. The mid-variant has a 4-inch display audio system with four speakers, a multi-functional steering wheel, remote key lock/unlock, powered ORVMs, power windows, follow me home headlights, and a USB charging port, among other features.
